New Olympus 500mm MFT Lens is in the Works

The Japanese website Newswitch published an interview with Olympus executive officer Shigemi Sugimoto.

From the interview, “A super telephoto lens that reaches 1000mm in full frame equivalent is under development, and it will reach 2000mm with a 2x teleconverter.”

As you might remember back in June, Olympus has officially announced the 2X teleconverter MC-20 (Adorama | B&H) that is compatible with the company’s 40-150mm f/2.8 and 300mm f/4 Pro lenses. The M.Zuiko Digital 2x Teleconverter MC-20 will also compatible with the 150-400mm F4.5 TC1.25x IS Pro which is currently under development.

Olympus MC-20 2x Teleconverter for 40-150mm f/2.8 and 300mm f/4 Pro Lenses

Olympus officially announced the new MC-20 2x teleconverter for 40-150mm f/2.8 PRO Lens and 300mm f/4 IS PRO Lens. This provides the effect of an 80-300mm f/5.6 and a 600mm f/8 lens respectively, dramatically boosting the apparent focal length of those lenses with a minimal increase to the size or weight of the camera and lens combination.

This teleconverter doubles the focal length of the master lens, and features dustproof, splashproof and freezeproof (-10°C) professional weatherproof construction for outstanding optical performance ideal for even the most severe environmental conditions.
