Sony 120MP Medium Format Sensor with Global Shutter

Sony released 120MP (127.68 Effective pixels) Medium Format Sensor with a global shutter. As you know Fuji GFX cameras uses a Sony medium format sensor.  So it’s a possibility that in near future, we might see Fuji GFX 120 or Fuji GFX 200.

The sensor is expected to be ‘used in industrial equipment cameras for a wide variety of applications [to] help to solve a variety of complex challenges, thereby contributing to the development of industry. Sony Announced a Medium Format 128MP Global Shutter Sensor

Sony announced a 128MP global shutter sensor. The sensor has a 56.73mm diagonal which is about the size of the sensor used by medium format cameras like the new GFX100.

The IMX661 sensor features Sony’s Pregius global shutter technology, which enables the ‘capture of motion distortion-free images.’ The sensor is expected to be ‘used in industrial equipment cameras for a wide variety of applications [to] help to solve a variety of complex challenges, thereby contributing to the development of industry.’

Confirmed : Nikon Z7 Sensor is Made by Sony

It is now confirmed that the sensor inside the Nikon Z7 camera is made by Sony. TechInsights (previously known as Chipworks) published their reports on the sensors inside the Nikon Z7.

According to this report, Nikon Z7 uses the Sony IMX309BQJ sensor. The sensor is offered with 45.7 megapixels. We know the benefits of the backlit BSI sensor from Sony’s A7R Mark III.
