Canon RF 85mm f/2 IS STM Lens Coming in 2020
Canon is rumored to be working on a new affordable RF 85mm f/2 IS STM lens. This new 85mm prime is expected to be announced in 2020.
In addition, Canon is planning to a whole line of f/2-f/2.8 non-L prime lenses with IS in the next 12 months. And these prime lenses will range from 18mm to 85mm.
Canon currently has two 85mm RF lenses for Canon EOS R and EOS RP mirrorless cameras: RF 85mm f/1.2L USM Lens ($2,699) and RF 85mm f/1.2L USM DS “Defocus Smoothing” lens ($2,999).
This is the first time we’ve heard such a RF 85mm f/2 IS STM lens coming. So just take it with a grain of salt until we can confirm the information above.
The Canon RF 85mm f/1.2L USM lens is in stock and shipping at major stores in US. The price of the lens is $2,699 and available at B&H Photo Video/Adorama/Amazon.
New Patents for Canon RF 85mm f/1.8 & RF 100mm f/2.8 Lenses
Canon has just filed two new lens patents RF 85mm f/1.8 lens and RF 100mm f/2.8 lens. New Canon patents are for RF-mount and will be designed for company’s full frame mirrorless cameras.

Development Announcement of Pentax HD PENTAX-D FA★ 85mm f/1.4 SDM AW Lens
RICOH IMAGING has announced the development of the second new generation of HD PENTAX-D FA★ 85mmF1.4 SDM AW lens. This is a new-generation high-performance Star-series lens which is known for the perfect image quality. This lens is scheduled to be released in late 2020.
Pentax say the lens series has the following credentials:
- Best possible image quality with uniform sharpness from the centre to the edges of the image.
- Large aperture with particularly expressive images.
- High build quality, durable materials for longevity and easy handling
“After the release of the PENTAX-D FA* 50mm, it quickly became one of the most popular lenses for use with the PENTAX 35mm system. Since then, many PENTAX photographers have requested additional lenses to extend the range of prime lenses. Pentax say that the lens should be available from late 2020, and no pricing has been announced as yet.
Pentax-D FA* 85mm f/1.4 SDM AW lens key features:

More NIKKOR Z f/1.2 Prime Lenses Coming in 2020
Nikon is rumored to announce more NIKKOR Z-mount lenses with f/1.2 bright aperture. According to latest rumors from NR, Nikon is planning to launch more f/1.2 high-end prime lenses for Nikon Z-mount mirrorless cameras.
Currently, there is only one f/1.2 prime lens in the Nikon Z-mount lens roadmap and it is the NIKKOR Z 50mm f/1.2 S Lens.
Canon has already released RF 50mm f/1.2L and RF 85mm f/1.2L prime lenses for Canon full frame mirrorless cameras. We hope the same for Nikon and wish to see they also release NIKKOR Z 85mm f/1.2 S lens in near future.
