The Micro Four Thirds system (MFT or M4/3) is a standard released by Olympus and Panasonic in 2008 for the design and development of mirrorless interchangeable lens digital cameras, camcorders and lenses.

Camera bodies are available from Blackmagic, DJI, JVC, Kodak, Olympus, Panasonic, Sharp, and Xiaomi. MFT lenses are produced by Cosina Voigtländer, DJI, Kowa, Kodak, Mitakon, Olympus, Panasonic, Samyang, Sharp, Sigma, SLR Magic, Tamron, Tokina, Veydra, and Xiaomi, amongst others.

Panasonic Released New Firmware Update for GH5s and G9 Cameras

Panasonic has released a new firmware update for GH5s and G9 Micro Four Thirds  cameras. This is a minor update as it fixes only one but important bug. Panasonic G9 firmware updated to version 2.1 while the GH5s firmware to version 1.5.

Picture freeze may occur at burst recording using an external flash when camera is set to AFC/AFF and LVF frame rate 120fps, has been improved.

Vazen has announced the pricing and shipping availability for their latest Micro Four Thirds lens, the 28mm T/2.2 1.8x Anamorphic.

The new 28mm is the 2nd member and the widest of their 1.8x anamorphic line-up. The whole set will contain 3 focal lengths (28mm, 40mm and 65mm) and the 65mm is expected to be out in a few months.

Panasonic Releases New Firmware Update for LUMIX S1R, S1, GH5, GH5S & G9

Panasonic has announced a series of new firmware updates for S1, S1R full frame, GH5, GH5s and the G9 MFT cameras.

With this major upgrade Panasonic G9 advances a 10-bit 4:2:2 video capture for 4K at up to 30p and HDMI output of 10-bit 50 and 60p footage. Meanwhile, the GH5S and G9 also gain animal detect autofocus, while both those cameras and the GH5 gain AF-On Near Shift and AF-ON Far Shift options to prioritize near or distant subjects.

Venus Optics announce price, specs and availability of Laowa 17mm f/1.8 MFT lens – a compact, approachable and fast lens for exquisite performance.

Retailing for just $149, the Laowa 17mm f/1.8 MFT is the most affordable lens that manufacturer Venus Optics has ever released.

Laowa 17mm f/1.8 lens provides the equivalent of a 34mm angle of view on a full-frame sensor. The lens houses nine elements in seven groups, and has a seven-blade diaphragm to give a pleasing sunstar rendering. The lens is compact and weighs just 6oz (172g). Sony Unveils the 47MP MFT Sensor that Can Shoot 8K/30p Video

Sony unveiled the details of a new 47MP MFT sensor that can shoot 8K video at 30fps.

Sony’s new IMX492 is a diagonal 23.1mm CMOS image sensor with a colour square pixel array. The multi-aspect sensor will capture 41-megapixel resolution in 4:3 mode or 35 megapixels in 17:9. The new Sony sensor records 8K video in 30p in 17:9 mode, and in 4:3 mode this drops to 25p.

The Sony IMX492 also offers 2.315μm pixel size for both the Bayer and Monochrome sensor version. No further details were provided as to availability and when we may start seeing it in cameras.

This kind of resolution for a MFT sensor is definitely huge and probably for high-end video-centric Micro Four Thirds system cameras. The new image sensor (model name IMX492LQJ) might actually show up in the successor to the Panasonic GH5S which could be named as Panasonic GH6 or the Olympus E-M1 III.
