Canon EOS C70 : New RF Mount Cinema Camera

Canon has introduced the Cinema EOS C70 – a new compact camera that is the first to combine Canon’s Cinema EOS System range with the portability and flexibility of its EOS R line. As a result filmmakers using a Canon Cinema EOS System camera can also use the full RF lens range.

The EOS C70 features a Super35 sensor using Canon’s next-generation Dual Gain Output (DGO) technology. The DGO sensor reads each pixel at two different gain levels, with one prioritizing saturation and highlight protection and the other suppressing noise in the shadows.

When combined, Canon claims the camera can deliver 16+ stops of dynamic range at up to DCI 4K/60p or 2K/120p (using a Super16 crop). It can also capture 4K/120p and 2K/180p without extended dynamic range. Recording choices include both All-I and intra-frame options using Canon’s XF-AVC or MP4 (H.265) codecs.

You can also use EF lenses with the EOS C70 when the newly announced Mount Adapter EF-EOS R 0.71x is secured to the camera.

The US price of Canon EOS C70 cinema camera is $5,499 and it will be released in November 2020. The Canon mount adapter EF-EOS R 0.71x is priced at $599.99 and the release date is scheduled for December 2020.
