Japanese business publication Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun made an interview with Nikon’s CEO, Mr. Toshikazu Umatate. In this interview he says a flagship mirrorless camera—equivalent to Nikon’s D5 DSLR—will be introduced.
There were rumors about the Nikon D6 DSLR camera that is coming before 2020 Olympics. There is a slight possibility that Nikon postpone the release of Nikon D5 successor camera, instead a high-end mirrorless sports camera could be unveiled in the name of Nikon Z9. More here.

Nikon President didn’t mention when they will launch the new model. Here is the translated quote:
Nikon to introduce a top-end model of the mirror-less camera. Time is a non-published, but Umatate Toshikazu president was revealed in response to the interview of the Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun. Top-end model of the digital single-lens reflex camera “D5.”
On the other hand Nikon is going to announce a new mid-level mirrorless camera sometime before September of 2019. More here. The price for this entry-level Nikon mirrorless camera will be around JPY 100,000 yen (US Price below $1,000). It is claimed that this new camera will be similar to Canon’s EOS RP, aimed at a large group of customers.
