Confirmed : Nikon Z9 (D5 Like) Z-mount Mirrorless Camera in the Works

Japanese business publication Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun made an interview with Nikon’s CEO, Mr. Toshikazu Umatate. In this interview he says a flagship mirrorless camera—equivalent to Nikon’s D5 DSLR—will be introduced.

There were rumors about the Nikon D6 DSLR camera that is coming before 2020 Olympics. There is a slight possibility that Nikon postpone the release of Nikon D5 successor camera, instead a high-end mirrorless sports camera could be unveiled in the name of Nikon Z9More here.

Nikon President  didn’t mention when they will launch the new model. Here is the translated quote:

Nikon to introduce a top-end model of the mirror-less camera. Time is a non-published, but Umatate Toshikazu president was revealed in response to the interview of the Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun. Top-end model of the digital single-lens reflex camera “D5.”

On the other hand Nikon is going to announce a new mid-level mirrorless camera sometime before September of 2019. More here. The price for this entry-level Nikon mirrorless camera will be around JPY 100,000 yen (US Price below $1,000). It is claimed that this new camera will be similar to Canon’s EOS RP, aimed at a large group of customers.
